A family day in a central park, planned for every age

A park family day has a gift no function room can match: space for children to run, grass for parents to sit on and an easy, unhurried mood. Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, with its open lawns and naturalised river, is a popular choice for exactly that reason. The catch is that families arrive with children of very different ages, and a programme built for one group leaves the others bored.

Toddlers and the very young

Primary school children

This group wants action. Inflatable obstacle courses with supervised queues, carnival games that hand out stamps or tokens, and short treasure hunts along safe, marked paths keep them busy for hours.

Teenagers

Teenagers often wander off from anything that looks designed for small children. Offer them something social or competitive, such as lawn sports, team challenges or a photo booth with props, and let them pick their own teams.

The grown-ups

Parents enjoy the day most when they can chat with colleagues while children are safely occupied. Put seating and a drinks station within sight of the play zones, and add one or two family games where parents and children play side by side.

For more ideas sorted by stage, the page on Bishan Park family day activities by age sets out zones for each group, from toddlers to teens.

Shade, weather and park rules

Plan tentage over food, seating and queues, and keep plenty of water around. Schedule the most energetic activities for the cooler morning hours, and agree in advance what pauses if it rains, since inflatables must stop in wet or windy weather. As this is a public park, tentage, amplified sound and food service may need approval, so check current requirements early with NParks.

On the morning: announce the lost child point at the welcome, brief every crew member on it and make sure each inflatable has a trained attendant.
